Rules & restrictions
We feel very lucky to be able to share our beautiful dance space with you. Please help us respect and maintain the space so that we can continue to share it with others.
- No food or beverages above the first floor. Water is allowed off the studio floor. Please eat outside the building.
- No street shoes on the studio floor, no exceptions. If your rehearsal calls for dance shoes, please contact us in advance to discuss what kind of shoes you hope to use.
- No rosin, wax, powders, or fluids may be used on our floor. Limited amounts of painter’s tape may be permitted (clean up after use required).
- Nail polish wearers must wear socks. Nail polish leaves streaks on the floor.
- Smoking is prohibited inside, and outside within 50 feet of any entrance.
- Staff offices, staff kitchen, mezzanine, and library are off-limits unless prior arrangements have been made in writing as part of this agreement.
- Drums and other musical instruments must have protective flooring between the dance floor and the implements. Please call us in advance to discuss any use of props and set pieces, which may damage the floors.
- Allow a class, rehearsal, or meeting to finish uninterrupted and clean up before entering the space.
- Each renter must clean up after their rehearsal, workshop, or meeting. We will schedule a 10-minute, no-cost window after your session for cleaning. Kindly finish your session in a timely fashion to allow for this maintenance.
- There is no reserved parking at Luna. Renters are responsible for understanding and adhering to all Berkeley city traffic and parking laws and accepting any consequences from breaking them.
You, the signer, are responsible for all aspects of this rental agreement. It is in violation of the agreement to leave your dance colleagues or students unattended in the building, to share the access code with anyone in your group, or to prop the door open. Only the main entrance on Potter Street may be used for entrances and exits. All members of your group (fellow dancers or students) must sign a liability waiver each time they are in attendance.
Deposits, fees & payment
Preliminary prices range from $35-60/hour depending on purpose, day of the week, and time of the day. You must book for the entire time you are in the building. You will be allowed a 10-minute grace period to enter in the lobby and 10-minute grace period to clean up after.
Cleaning/Security Deposit: We reserve the right to hold a $100 cleaning/security deposit, refundable after a successful post-event inspection is conducted by Luna. If additional cleaning is required, you agree to be charged $30/hour, deducted from the deposit or remitted to Luna otherwise.
Accidents happen. We at Luna want to be told of anything that is broken, missing, or inoperable as soon as possible so that we can repair things for the next user. Please do not ignore or hide problems – tell us. We will seek to find a reasonable solution to any problems with minimal burden to Renter. Failure to inform Luna of these issues may void the rental contract.
Damages
Should any damage be found or items missing and Luna staff have not been informed, Renter agrees to pay for said repairs within 15 days.
Additional fees will be charged for:
- Extending beyond the reserved time ($15/15 minutes)
- Leaving the heat on ($10/hour left on until discovered)
- Additional guests. The preliminary fees are based on the number of people you invite to the space. A surcharge of $2/guest will be added for any excess of the original count.
The above fees will be debited from the security deposit, if applicable, or a bill shall be sent to Renter. Renter agrees to pay the said amount within 15 days.
Payment
We accept cash, check, or credit card (Visa and Master Card + 3.36% credit card fee, no American Express/Discovery) payments. We will consider alternate payment plans on a case-by-case basis. Checks are to be made out to Luna Dance & Creativity. A charge of $35 will be applied to each bounced check.
Cancellations
1x Rehearsal, 1x Workshop/Class, first class of a Series or meeting booked with Luna must be canceled at least 7 full days prior to rental time or you will be billed the full amount. Cancellations made before this deadline will be refunded, less a $25 administration fee. You are financially responsible for all the time booked even if it is not used. No-shows will also be billed.

Insurance
For the protection of all parties, renters are expected to provide a current Certificate of Insurance covering bodily injury, personal injury, and property damage, and naming Luna Kids Dance dba Luna Dance & Creativity, its employees, officers, and agents as additional insureds. In certain situations, this insurance requirement may be waived.
In all cases, Renters are required to have liability waivers signed by any students, dancers, friends or associates occupying the studio between the reserved start and end times.
