  • Teacher as Creative Practitioner-Scholar: Action Research

    $660.00

Action Research is a valid methodology for practitioners to participate in knowledge creation, theory generation, and to test
assumptions. Like other forms of research, it is a systematic study of teaching practices centered on observation and discovery, but Action Research crosses disciplines and is a scholarship of community service. It supports creative and conscious teaching.

This advanced-level online course brings together teaching artist scholars in a seminar format to learn a systematic study of teaching practices. Over 11 weeks, participants will learn how observation and reflection-in-action strengthen anti-biased teaching; learn the principles and theories of Action Research; and plan, implement, and present a small study based on individual interests.

Completion of Action Research is required for scholars to enroll in other courses in TACPS (Teacher as Creative Practitioner Scholar) which includes: TACPS: Creativity and TACPS: Democratizing Research Literature. The prerequisite for this course is Luna’s Summer Institute, DIDC-A, prior TACPS seminar, or permission of Instructor. Taught by Luna founder and Pedagogy Director, Dr. Patricia Reedy.

Teacher as Creative Practitioner-Scholar: Democratizing Research Literature

    $360.00
Arts, education, and social justice practitioners can use research literature to support their advocacy efforts, however, there is limited access to such literature outside of academic institutions. Teacher as Creative Practitioner-Scholar: Democratizing Research Literature explores how to access and critically examine the body of literature in popular education databases and create pathways to one’s own inquiries. This course is designed for the practitioner who engages in Action Research, advocacy, or extended study, as well as the university graduate student who seeks alternative ways to approach Lit Review. Offered as a six-session (every other Saturday), synchronistic online course, practitioners will use literature to create individualized claims for an advocacy or research project of their choice.
Continued education credits available through Loyola Marymount University.
